just a comment on the below post

i can see where you're coming from...for example, there are many french filmmakers who do this style. there is a film with the start where the girl uses a penknife to carve her skin out. and in "irreversible" the whole story played backwards and the camera kept spinning in circles for the first half hour. and even in moulin rouge the director purposely shot it really jerkily and kept spinning around (and i really felt dizzy and sick during the first part). all did show some purpose.

so in the end if they criticize it's just personal taste, it doesn't detract from what you try to achieve as an artist=p

at the same time, some things are not universally liked. i think it is difficult for audiences to appreciate "artsy" things unless they're taught from the maker's point of view first.

even then, some people just believe art should be entertainment (aesthetically pleasing) anyway. and if it's entertainment that can be delivered with a damn good message then it's a damn good film=).
