An Episode.
X & Y
An Asian thriller on the edge of murder, suicide, and a building in school that was once a morgue.
The titile. X & Y building...2 characters, X & Y...the Coldplay album X & Y...Ex & Whys?? I dunno.
Halloween was in the vicinity and I made a spontaneous decision to make a horror film on the way back home from a LooSETV Fiction meeting. Winter was coming, the wind was blowing, and the leaves were shaking down from the trees...eRRr...So, I reached home and wrote a treatment in half an hour and called up the LooSETV president to tell him my plan. He was all for it.
The next thing I did was to go for a cheesy trip to Alton towers the next day and scream for the sake of fun. I storyboarded the idea on the way with the encouragement of Zhirong and after a further draft, the script was formed and I managed to find my actresses.
Then, the shooting went for three days. Hardcore diligence and determination again and when my actress was complaining and whining away, Zola blurted out something about 'pain is temporary, what matters is the prize at the end'!
Then came editing. I have never used FinalCut before! Worse, I was using an Apple platform with all the funky features that was so awesome that they grossed me out in absoludity. Then again, I manage to build a rough cut and piece together the scenes.
There I went to find Nick 'Bang' Pauro on the same day. I blabbered soemthing about looking for Bang, my horror film and showing on Crush. The bouncer was in disbelief and he asked if I know how Nick looks like. I said I'm not sure, when Nick was just standing beside him. The bouncer whispered to him before asking me to look for security at the back.
'At the back? Where?'
No one looks for Nick if he doesnt know who he is. I came back again with Jesse. Turned out that Nick is some thrash with the thick cockney accent (or whatever it is)...I called up Sanj and passed the phone to Nick...'Speak to Sanj, Nick...' I ordered him. Then finally, I managed to screen it in Crush itself! Friday night Halloween Crush at LSE! (but while house music is blasting and everyone dancing on the stage to block out the screen.)
The after-party was a private premier at Adrian's house with all my buddies....... but Nat didnt scream at all...!
Then, I skipped all my work again to edit the film a second time. When all was done, was a hyper sense of fulfilment. Then, I called Watson to tell him that I could make it for dinner, went all the way to Chinatown, back to school to screen at Fright Night.
The scruffy Singaporeans were obviously there for a laugh at whatever ghost they could meet for the night. I screened it to them in a senseless state of mind, and had a rousing reception. I swear I heard a dozen loud-mouthed bitches blabbering away.
Hey Shuddup!
I still love my film. But back to investment banking.
